READ ALL ABOUT IT: CASA DESIGN PIECES STAR IN NEW AD MAGAZINE FEATURE

When two Fortune 500 business leaders and philanthropists hired Boston interdisciplinary design firm Hacin + Associates to help them reimagine a six-story, 1881 Back Bay town house, they wanted to push boundaries and “ask for the impossible.” The results, as featured in the latest edition of AD magazine, are a striking balance of transformation and preservation, with unique architectural details set off against simple, spacious, clean interiors — all featuring modern artwork and elegant furniture by today’s most creative and innovative designers. Here are few of the stunning indoor and outdoor pieces shown in the article, all supplied by Casa Design Group.

Gloster Grand Weave Collection

As shown in the ground-floor courtyard, Gloster’s Grand Weave seating brings a warm, rustic touch to this urban oasis, thanks to Henrik Pedersen’s modern take on handcrafted willow hurdles and the plushly comfortable, weatherproof cushions.

Gloster Grid Collection

The star of the rooftop deck overlooking the Boston skyline, Grid was conceived as “a bridge between stark minimalist design and large-scale luxury.” Grid’s simplicity is its strength, allowing just a few units to form the basis of a totally flexible seating system with endless style.

Gallotti&Radice 0414 Armchair

Gallotti&Radice’s 0414 chair, designed by Studio G&R, embodies classical style with a modern edge. The black lacquered, curved solid ash profile lends a sense of chic formality to the dining room while elegantly reflecting the majestic, curving staircase that weaves dramatically up through every floor of the town house.

MDF Tense Material Wood Table

Designed by Piergiorgio and Michele Cazzaniga, the Tense table featured in the dining room is a perfect combination of art and design, its minimalist lines belying great strength and functionality. Available in three different wood essences — natural oak, carbonized oak, and national walnut — the wood grains and natural, wrinkled surface create a visual and tactile experience that makes each table a unique work of art.

Foscarini Magneto Floor Lamp

As befits a house that is both a triumph of minimalism and a repository of striking art, the Magneto floor lamp adds a touch of elegant simplicity in the primary bedroom, where sumptuous materials and thoughtful lighting create a mellow, “sultry” mood.

Molteni&C Gliss Master Closet

Vincent Van Duysen’s tone-on-tone closet, shown in the dressing room, perfectly matches the home and its owners “glamorous but unassuming” personalities. Semi-transparent and ultra-sophisticated, Gliss Master’s walk-in closets are completely customizable, with a wide selection of internal accessories available to design the compartments with personalized solutions to meet specific needs, from hanging drawer units, extractable trays, shoe shelves, and storage compartments to accessorized drawers with dividers.

From courtyard to rooftop, carefully curated pieces echo themes of fluidity, handicraft, and contemporary simplicity. A few more of our favorites not featured in the article include Royal Botania’s Palma Umbrella and Gloster’s Split Dining Table and Sway Stacking Side Chair, all reflecting the home’s sense of spa-like tranquility and comfort. Riva 1920’s Curve Bench, a single block of scented cedar, brings earthy elegance with a touch of whimsy, while Skram Furniture’s Wishbone 2 Drawer High Table and Piedmont Side Table Nightstand blend traditional and modern sensibilities that elevate humble tables to stylish accent pieces.
