Moooi’s Monster Chairs Have a Major Moment in Alina Woldhardt’s South End Duplex

Sep 12, 2016

When interior design maven Alina Wolhardt needed chairs to pair with her custom live-edge dining tabletop in the duplex she shares with her husband, underground sneaker and streetwear scion Jay Gordon of Bodega, she found them in our Moooi Monster Chair.

With just over 1,000 square feet to work with in the South End space, Wolhardt faced a particular challenge: finding just the right pieces to capture and convey the couple’s eclectic style. As the Wolf in Sheep Design owner told Boston Magazine in a spread on her dramatic new digs, “Every piece has meaning to us and a story behind it. It’s not random stuff that we just bought to fill in the space.”

In other words, it wasn’t just about loading up on high-end furniture, but about finding the purpose in each piece.

Enter Moooi’s Monster Chair by Marcel Wanders. It’s not often that one uses words like “puffy” and “gnarly” to describe a mere seat, but that’s exactly what designboom had to say of this anything-but-mere, Gothic-inspired piece.
